THE WIRE is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon. The series was broadcast by the cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008. THE WIRE consists of 60 episodes of 1 hour.

STORY: In the drug-ridden streets of Baltimore, you’ll encounter both good and bad people. But sometimes a police badge isn’t enough to tell them apart. Centered on the drug culture of inner-city Baltimore, the story unfolds from both the perspectives of the criminals who rule the streets and the eyes of the cops who try to catch them.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Omar Devone Little (Michael K. Williams) is a fictional character on the HBO drama series The Wire. He is a notorious Baltimore stick-up man, who frequently robs street-level drug dealers. He was legendary around Baltimore for his characteristic duster, under which he hides his shotgun. In season 2 Omar returns to Baltimore with a new boyfriend, Dante (Ernest Waddell). He quickly returns to his old business, targeting the Barksdales exclusively and connects with Tosha and Kimmy, stick-up artists who join his crew.

SPECIAL: For the first time in the mainstream gay men, and in particular gay black men, had someone that was actually like them. Apart from being Baltimore’s answer to Robin Hood, Omar was quintessentially ‘normal’. He was humorous, hung out with his boyfriend and smoked – the gay dream; everybody’s dream, even.

AWARDS: ‘THE WIRE’ won 2 Primetime Emmys. 16 wins & 54 nominations.
