WENTWORTH is an Australian television drama series. It first aired on SoHo on May 1, 2013. The series serves as a contemporary reinvention of Prisoner, which ran on Network Ten from 1979 to 1986. Lara Radulovich and David Hannam developed Wentworth from Reg Watson's original concept. WENTWORTH consists of 100 episodes of 45 minutes.
STORY: Wentworth is set in modern-day Australia. It explores the life of Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) when she first enters the prison after being charged with the attempted murder of her husband. Bea is separated from her daughter and sent to Wentworth on remand, where she lives in "an uncertain uncertainty" until she is convicted. Starting at the bottom of Wentworth's hierarchy, Bea is forced to learn how to survive in prison.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Jake Stewart (Bernard Curry) is a senior officer who served as a guard at Walford Prison before being transferred to Wentworth. Stewart had a sexual relationship with security guard Sean Brody (Rick Donald). Brody comes to Wentworth and when he does, he brings trouble. He manages to manipulate everyone and gets Jake suspended.
