A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL is a British TV comedy-drama anthology series. The first three-part series from 2018 was based on the 2016 book of the same name by John Preston. It is a dramatization of the Jeremy Thorpe scandal of 1976-1979 and more than 15 years of events that preceded it. A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL consists of 3 episodes of 56 minutes.

STORY: In 1965, Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant), a Liberal MP, got involved with disgruntled ex-lover Norman Josiffe (Ben Whishaw), whom he met in 1961 and dated for several years. Thorpe had met Norman when the latter was a 21-year-old stableboy in Oxfordshire and wrote many letters to him, which Norman kept.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: In 1968, Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant) was elected leader of the Liberal Party and is the youngest man to lead the party in a century. He marries naive young Caroline Allpass (Alice Orr-Ewing) and they have a son. Norman Josiffe goes by the name Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw) and although he gets along well with horses and dogs, he fails to keep a job or relationship, drinks too much and takes drugs. He dated Jeremy for a long times.
