UNITED STATES OF TARA is an American television comedy-drama created by Diablo Cody, which aired on Showtime from 2009 to 2011. The series would not be renewed for a fourth season and the series finale aired on June 20, 2011. UNITED STATES OF TARA consists of 36 episodes of 30 minutes.
STORY: The show portrays a seemingly quintessential American family dealing with the daily struggles of dissociative identity disorder (DID). Tara Gregson (Toni Colette) is a wife and mother of two in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, who has been diagnosed with DID. She suffers from side effects of the medication and is depressed. With her therapist's approval, she stops taking the medication, knowing that multiple personalities will emerge.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Marshall Gregson (Keir Gilchrist), Tara and Max's son, is old-fashioned, loves classic movies and wants to be a director when he grows up. That Marshall is gay is a "ordinary fact". He is extremely sensitive, loyal and friendly. Marshall gets a boyfriend in season 2, Lionel (Micheal J. Willett), his openly gay best boyfriend and his first official boyfriend is Noah (Aaron Christian Howles), an openly gay college student. He is introduced when Marshall and Lionel are assigned to work with him on a video project. He later finds himself in the middle of their relationship when Lionel starts a threesome with him and Marshall. When Lionel discovers that Marshall has developed romantic feelings for Noah, he ends their relationship.
