TORCHWOOD is a British science fiction television program created by Russell T Davies. A spin-off from the 2005 revival of Doctor Who, it aired from 2006 to 2011. The series shifted from broadcast channel to series, reflecting its growing success. From BBC Three to BBC Two to BBC One and also acquiring US funding in its fourth series when it became a co-production of BBC One and Starz. TORCHWOOD consists of 41 episodes of 50 minutes.
STORY: Torchwood follows the exploits of a small team of alien fighters, who are part of the Cardiff-based fictional Torchwood Institute that mainly deals with incidents involving aliens. The central character is Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), an immortal con man from the distant future; Jack originally appeared in the 2005 series Doctor Who.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) approached Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) with enthusiasm to join the team and eventually got him. He fell in love with Jack and became his romantic partner. He is the main romantic interest of Captain Jack Harkness, the main man of the series. Ianto's story is set up to have had heterosexual relationships prior to the series and is part of the show's ongoing exploration of human sexuality.
