THIS IS GOING TO HURT is a British medical comedy-drama television miniseries, created by Adam Kay and based on his memoir of the same name. The show was co-produced by the BBC and AMC. THIS IS GOING TO HURT consists of 7 episodes of 45 minutes.
STORY: The series is a fictional adaptation of Adam Kay's book This Is Going To Hurt. Set in London during 2006, it focuses on a group of junior doctors working on a busy obstetrics and gynaecology ward located in an NHS hospital. It has frank honesty in the depiction of working in obstetrics and gynaecology. It fully explores the emotional effects working in a hospital environment has on its staff.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Adam (Ben Whishaw), who is gay but closeted at work, is perhaps most evasive with his fiancé Harry (Rory Fleck Byrne) whose need for honesty and intimacy Adam relentlessly stonewalls by answering every inquiry about his state of mind with a dismissive "I'm fine." Of course, Adam is far from fine. Narrowly escaping dismissal for the lethal mistake of sending home an expectant mother whose distress he doubted, Adam addresses another complaint -- this one anonymous-- by accusing the few friends and colleagues he has left of betraying him.

SPECIAL: The series shows how Kay worked hard to hide his same-sex relationship from those around him, and speaking to Esquire, Whishaw recalled: “This is set in 2006, which isn’t that long ago, but it was different in terms of how gay people were accepted”.
