SHAMELESS is a British comedy drama television series set in Manchester in the fictional borough of Chatsworth, created and written in part by Paul Abbott, who is also the executive producer of the programme. Produced by Company Pictures for Channel 4, the series ran for 11 seasons and aired from January 13, 2004 to May 28, 2013. In 2005, the show won Best Drama Series at the BAFTA TV Awards and Best TV Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards. SHAMELESS consists of 139 episodes of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

STORY: The series chronicles the lives of the Gallagher family and their neighbours. David Threlfall was cast as an alcoholic father, Frank Gallagher (David Threlfell), who lives in their neighbourhood with his children. Anne-Marie Duff was cast as his eldest daughter and householder, Fiona. Jody Latham and Gerard Kearns played Gallagher brothers Lip Gallagher and Ian Gallagher.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: When Mickey (Ciarán Griffiths) begins a brief and casual affair with Ian Gallagher (Gerard Kearns) and falls in love with him. Mickey proves to be a true admirer and follows Ian everywhere and is emotionally very demanding. Unlike Ian, none of Mickey's family knows about his homosexuality. Mickey comes close to coming out several times, but is left with daydreaming about revealing his homosexuality to his family.

SPECIAL: Ian's sexuality is open to discussion. He is portrayed as gay for the first three seasons, but from the fourth series he appears to have had several sexual relationships with women. His longest and possibly most meaningful relationship with a woman is with Maxine, but she feels his sexual interest in men will hinder their relationship. When asked if he is bisexual, Ian doesn't answer the question directly, he simply says that he has to meet just the "right person".
