SHADOW AND BONE is an American fantasy television series developed by Eric Heisserer for Netflix. It is based on the written works of Leigh Bardugo, and set in the Grishaverse, which consists of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. All eight episodes of the first season premiered on April 23, 2021. In June 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, also consisting of eight episodes, which premiered on March 16, 2023. In November 2023, the series was canceled after two seasons. SHADOW AND BONE consists of 16 episodes of 1 hour.
STORY: The series is set in the Grishaverse which consists of the nations of Ravka, Fjerda, Shu Han, Kerch, Novyi Zem, and the Wandering Isle. Each nation adapts elements of language, culture and tradition from countries of the real world, drawn from different time periods. In the Grishaverse there exists a group of people who have been described as "magic-users". In-universe, these people are considered practitioners of "The Small Science" - an individual gift each Grisha holds to manipulate matter at its smallest level, the "molecular level". Alina Starkov (Jessie Mai LI), an orphan and former assistant cartographer of the Royal Corps of Surveyors in the First Army. She discovers that she is the Sun Summoner, a Grisha with the rare ability to summon light.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE 1: Ivan (Simon Sears) is a Heartrender, who serves under General Kirigan (Ben Barnes). He is Feydor Kaminsky's lover. Fedyor (Julian Kostov) is also a Heartrender, who serves under General Kirigan. He is Ivan's lover.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE 2: Kit Young plays Jesper in Netflix's Shadow and Bone. In the novels, Jesper is bisexual or pansexual and he has a crush on Jan Van Eck's son Wylan. Kit confirmed Jesper is bisexual in the Netflix series too in an interview with Seventeen, describing the character as a "good sharpshooter, gambler, low key flyest dressed person in the room, and bisexual". He has a crush on the stable boy Dima (Jesse Badger).

SPECIAL: Kit Young researched cowboys and gunslingers for his role as Jesper Fahey. He trained with guns to the point that the crew found out during pre-production that several trick shots which were planned for CGI were actually stunts Young could do himself.
