SEX EDUCATION is a British teen comedy-drama streaming television series created by Laurie Nunn for Netflix. The cast includes Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells and Kedar Williams-Stirling. SEX EDUCATION consists of 32 episodes of 1 hour.
STORY: Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) is a student at Moordale Secondary School and takes Sex Education. Otis takes lessons ambivalently about sex, in part because his divorced mother Jean is a sex therapist who often has affairs with her lovers, but is unable to maintain romantic relationships. Moordale's other students include Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), Otis' best friend and the gay son of Ghanaian-Nigerian immigrants; Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey), a rebellious teenager whose independence is overshadowed by her troubled past; Adam Groff (Connor Swindells), the headmaster's son, has developed a bully character out of his own self-loathing; Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams Sterling), the head boy who struggles to live up to his high expectations.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa) is Otis' gay best friend who comes from a religious Ghanaian-Nigerian family. Adam Groff (Connor Swindells) is the school principal's son and Eric's bully who falls in love with Eric.

SPECIAL: The series was praised for its handling of intimate screenplay and its use of an intimacy coordinator, Ita O'Brien. The setting of Sex Education appears to be contemporary Britain, in the fictional village of Moordale, with various elements serving to place the show in an uncertain time and location. Modern technology, such as smartphones, exists, but the series shows very few cars from after the 1990s, with most cars from the 1970s to the 1990s.
