RIPLEY is an upcoming American psychological thriller television series based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Ripley was originally set to air on Showtime, but in February 2023, the series moved to Netflix. It is scheduled to premiere on April 4, 2024. RIPLEY consists of 8 episodes of 1 hour.
STORY: In 1960s New York, Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott) is hired by a wealthy man to convince his wayward son to return home from Italy. But Tom's introduction to Dickie Greenleaf's leisurely life abroad "is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder".
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Ripley’s (Andrew Scott) life changes drastically when wealthy businessman Herbert Greenleaf mistakes him for a Princeton classmate of his son Dickie (Johnny Flynn), who has ditched his family responsibilities to live a luxe, carefree life in Italy with his girlfriend Marge (Dakota Fanning). When Ripley is enlisted to bring the young man back to America, he becomes enamoured with his new pal’s life, and schemes to take what he covets, no matter how much homoerotic bloodshed it takes.
Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott) & Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn)
ANDREW SCOTT (2024) October 21, 1976, Dublin, Ireland
JOHNNY FLYNN (2024) March 14, 1983, Johannesburg, South Africa
SPECIAL: The role is a marked departure from Scott’s recent turn as a vulnerable gay screenwriter in Andrew Haigh’s film All of Us Strangers. But this isn’t the first time that the actor has played a charming sociopath from classic literature, as anyone who watched him play Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock can attest.
AWARDS: ‘RIPLEY’ not yet.
