THE POLITICIAN is an American comedy-drama streaming television series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and released on Netflix. The trio also serves as executive producers with Alexis Martin Woodall, Ben Platt and Gwyneth Paltrow. THE POLITICIAN consists of 15 episodes of 42 minutes.
STORY: The series revolves around the story of Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy Santa Barbarian, and each season revolves around a different political race involving his character.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) is an ambitious man who ran for president of the student council in St. Sebastian and later for the New York State Senate. River Barkley (David Corenswet) is Payton's opponent for student council president and his ex-boyfriend. Payton, who has dreamed of being elected president of the United States since childhood, faces the popular and athletic River Barkley as student body president. Influenced by his ambitious friends Payton chooses Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch), a cancer patient and victim of Munchausen by Proxy disorder, as his vice president. Meanwhile, River chooses Skye Leighton (Rahne Jones), a gender-nonconforming black classmate, as his vice president. River informs Payton that he only did this at the direction of his girlfriend Astrid Sloan, apologizes to Payton, tells him he loves him, and kills himself in front of Payton.
