LINDENSTRASSE (Int. Title: Linden Street) was a German television drama series, broadcast by Das Erste. The first episode aired on 8 December 1985 and since then new episodes were broadcast weekly. LINDENSTRASSE consists of 1758 episodes of 30 minutes.
STORY: Located in an average quarter of Munich, this weekly soap opera focuses on the lives of normal people. Beside the typical storylines like love, marriage and death, the show has treated a lot of controversial issues during the years, for example homosexuality, drug abuse, domestic violence, rape, xenophobia, prostitution and AIDS.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: The "Lindenstrasse" once wrote German television history with gay storylines: In 1987, Carsten Flöter (Georg Uecker) smooched his then friend Gerd Weinbauer (Günter Barton) - a complete novelty in the previously staid German evening program. Three years later, with a hot night of love with his then lover Robert Engel (Martin Armknecht). The scene later became a museum object in Bonn's "House of History". In 1997 Carsten married his friend Theo (David Wilms) - four years before the registered partnership was introduced. In 2003 he finally became a partner with Georg Käthe Eschweiler (Claus Vinçon) and adopted the HIV-positive Felix (Oliver Moser).

SPECIAL: Uecker became known as Dr. Carsten Flöter ), where he kissed actor Günter Barton in 1987. It was the first kiss between two men on German television in an evening series. After a second kiss in 1990, with actor Martin Armknecht on the show, both actors received several anonymous death threats after the broadcast of the episode.
