GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Kieren "Kier" or "Ren" Walker (Luke Newberry) is the main character of this series who is one of the former rabid zombies who have been rehabilitated. He has since returned to his parents' home in the village of Roarton. He has a bout of depression from the loss of his best friend and his romantic desire, Rick Macy (David Walmsley). Rick caused 18-year-old Kieren to commit suicide. On his return, he is confronted with the consequences and guilt of his suicide and the murders he committed in his rabid state. Gradually gaining confidence in both his sexuality and his status as an IBS sufferer, Kieren begins a romantic relationship with Simon Monroe (Emmett J. Scanlan). Charismatic Simon Monroe has ties to the Undead Liberation Army (ULA) and is also one of the twelve disciples of the mysterious Undead Prophet. The surviving undead have been rounded up, forcibly treated and placed in a government rehabilitation program with the plan to reintroduce them into society. They are officially called Partially Deceased Syndrome (PDS) sufferers.

His return is a surprise both to Kieran, and to his mother and father; his father, an anti-PDS extremist, is particularly unable to cope with his son becoming a PDS sufferer.
