HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. HOUSE OF THE DRAGON consists of 20 episodes of 50 minutes.
STORY: Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons".
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) is the son of Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), and later the husband of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock). Laenor longs for adventure and freedom, despite his genuine friendship with Rhaenyra. After being reunited at a funeral for Daemon’s late wife Laena Velaryon, Rhaenyra makes it clear that she wants to marry her uncle in the face of a looming war.. But as Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) points out, they couldn’t get married unless Laenor were dead. Daemon and Rhaenyra actually helped Laenor fake his own death at Qarl’s hand, using a half-burned corpse that Daemon killed in Laenor’s place. Ser Qarl Correy (Arty Froushan) is a household knight and lover of Ser Laenor Velaryon.

SPECIAL: In a massive change from George R.R. Martin’s original novel Fire and Blood, the Game of Thrones prequel didn’t kill off Laenor Velaryon or his lover, Ser Qarl Correy in Episode 7 (“Driftmark”). Instead, the pair faked their own deaths, leaving them free to start a new life together free of royal expectations.
AWARDS: 'HOUSE OF THE DRAGON' won 1 Primetime EMMY and 13 wins & 69 nominations.
