HALT AND CATCH FIRE is an American period drama television series created by Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers. The show's title refers to computer machine code instruction Halt and Catch Fire (HCF). HALT AND CATCH FIRE consists of 40 episodes of 1 hour.

STORY: Taking place over a period of more than ten years, the series depicts a fictionalized insider's view of the personal computer revolution of the 1980s and the growth of the World Wide Web in the early 1990s. In season one, the company Cardiff Electric makes its first foray into personal computing, with entrepreneur Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) running a project to build an IBM PC clone with the help of computer engineer Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy) and prodigy programmer Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis).

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: From the first episode of Halt and Catch Fire, Joe (Lee Pace) is brazenly bisexual, initially one of the only aspects, along with his headlong, hasty search for human connection, that he's comfortable sharing about his elusive personality. Joe is surprised to see Simon Church (D.B. Woodside) his designer, already waiting for him in his office. Simon’s presence makes him uneasy. We learn that 10 years prior, Joe was in Europe for a conference and heard Simon speak.  He wanted to be him and spent a month with him until Simon left.  “That guy just messes me up.”

SPECIAL: Pace said that Joe's bisexuality was a reflection of the character being a "mutable person", "a questioner and a disrupter", and someone who "doesn't feel limitations". The idea for the character was inspired by co-creator Christopher Cantwell's father, who was a software salesman.

AWARDS: ‘HALT AND CATCH FIRE’ won 1 Primetime Emmy. 2 wins & 14 nominations.
