STORY: Halston is based on the life of designer Halston (Ewan McGregor). Adapted from Steven Gaines' book “Simply Halston” in 1991.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Halston (Ewan McGregor) was openly gay and had an on-again, off-again relationship with Venezuelan Victor Hugo (Gian Franco Rodriguez). Their relationship started in 1972 and lasted a little over 10 years. In 1988 he tested positive for HIV and after his health deteriorated he moved to San Francisco. He died of Kaposi's sarcoma on March 26, 1990.

SPECIAL: Halston rose to fame after one of his hats was worn by Jacqueline Kennedy when her husband was sworn in as president in 1961. After hats became less and less fashionable, he refocused and started designing clothes. In 1968 he opened his first boutique on Madison Avenue. His clients included many celebrities such as Greta Garbo, Babe Paley, Anjelica Huston, Gene Tierney, Lauren Bacall, Margaux Hemingway, Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli (both Jagger and Minnelli were close friends of his).
