GOEDE TIJDEN, SLECHTE TIJDEN (Int. Title: Good Times, Bad Times), also known as GTST, is the longest-running Dutch soap that started on October 1, 1990 on RTL4. The program was the first daily (every working day) soap opera in the Netherlands and Europe. The soap is produced by Joop van den Ende and so far more than 6,300 episodes have been broadcast. It was inspired by the Australian soap The Restless Years, although it started to sail its own course in the third season. GTST is broadcast from Monday to Friday at 20:00. Each episode is watched by about 1.5 million viewers. It is the best rated soap in the Netherlands. GOEDE TIJDEN, SLECHTE TIJDEN consists of 6930 episodes of 23 minutes.
STORY: The soap is mainly about the lives of the Alberts, Sanders, De Jong, Van Houten and Bouwhuis families. It all takes place in the fictional town of Meerdijk. Like any other soap opera, marriage, divorce and kidnapping are a few ingredients of GTST, although in recent years GTST has become known for writing and producing more controversial storylines.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Dave Mantel played the role of detective Menno Kuiper in GTST from 2013 to 2014. He fell in love with Lucas Sanders (Ferry Doedens). In early 2014, 2.1 million people watched these two tie the knot.
