THE FAME GAME is an Indian mystery family drama television series on Netflix created by Sri Rao and directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli. Produced by Karan Johar and Somen Mishra under the banner Dharmatic Entertainment, THE FAME GAME consists of 8 episodes of 45 minutes.
STORY: Anamika Anand (Madhuri Dixit) is a Bollywood star who has a glamorous career and a seemingly idyllic family - but there is more to her personal life than meets the eye. She is physically and verbally abused by her husband, Nikhil More (Sanjay Kapoor). While her daughter Amara (Muskkaan Jaferi) aspires to be a great star like her mother, highlighting nepotism in the current Bollywood industry, her son Avi (Lashvir Saran) has his own issues to face including his sexuality. Additionally, Anamika’s mother consistently berates her and other members of the family and uses manipulative techniques to achieve her goals. Her only solace is Manish Khanna (Manav Kaul), her frequent co-star and past lover. Anamika's sudden disappearance puts her personal life in the limelight and thus begins the quest to find her and the person behind her disappearance, which leads to the unveiling of many dark secrets.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Avi (Lakshvir Saran), from the get-go, is portrayed as someone who is moody and struggling with life. Intuitively, it seems from the outset that he’s struggling with his sexuality. It is not so much what is said or done, but somehow the presence of Avi’s childhood best friend Samar (Danish Sood), Avi’s attempt at suicide which Anamika (Madhuri Dixit) rightfully reads as a cry for help gives to the sense of his struggle and even his visit to the dance bar seems indicative of this. Ultimately, he comes out. Well, not entirely on his own. His mother, after a difficult night, asks him how he feels. What follows in a coming-out story we all hope becomes the norm. Anamika hugs him and assures him.

SPECIAL: While LGBTQIA+ representation in mainstream shows and movies in India is an issue that is far from being resolved, it has been heartening to see more queer characters on screen. This show, for that matter, has three. The first is Billy (Kashyap Harsha Shangari), who plays the role of Anamika’s stylist and he is gay. The second and playing a more critical role in the show is the character of Shobha Trivedi (Rajshri Deshpande), the ACP in charge of finding Anamika. Shobha is a lesbian, and this is a fact that is addressed in a few scenes. The third is Avinash who is coming out as gay.
