FAIR CITY is an Irish television soap opera which has been broadcast on RTÉ One since 1989. Produced by the public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), it first aired on Monday 18 September 1989. It has won several awards and is both the most popular and the longest running Irish drama serial. FAIR CITY consists of 2104 episodes of 25 minutes.
STORY: Fair City is set in Carrigstown, a fictional suburb of the Northside part of the city of Dublin. The series was originally focused on four families: the O'Hanlons, the Kellys, the Clarkes and the Doyles. During the 1990s, the Phelan, Doyle, and Molloy families were introduced and dominated storylines for that decade.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Cristiano (Rodrigo Ternevoy) and Will (John Cronin) are very different personalities. Both married before. Cristiano to a man in Chile, who died and Will to Mayread, with whom he shares a daughter. Will has demons to deal with before he can form a healthy relationship and has a long way to go. Only hope might be Cristiano’s kindness and emotional intelligence.

SPECIAL: The series has featured a number of gritty and controversial storylines reflecting major issues in Irish society, particularly from the mid-1990s. John Cronin said although the scenes of domestic violence in the show are “difficult” to watch they are extremely important in the attempt to break the stigma that men can’t be victims of domestic abuse. Will, John’s character in the show, has been shown beating and abusing his boyfriend Cristiano. The abuse turned from emotional and manipulative to physical violence in recent episodes.
