DEAR WHITE PEOPLE
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE is an American comedy-drama streaming television series on Netflix that follows several black students at an Ivy League institution (the fictional Winchester University), examining issues surrounding modern American race relations. It is based on the 2014 film of the same name. The writer and director of the film and TV series is Justin Simien. DEAR WHITE PEOPLE consists of 40 episodes of 30 minutes.
STORY: At a predominantly white Ivy League college a group of black students struggle with various forms of racial and other discrimination.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Lionel Higgins (DeRon Horton) is a very intelligent school reporter with some emotional issues. He is a standout media student at Winchester University and a former article writer for The Independent. Silvio Romo (DJ Blickenstaff) is Lionel's love interest. Lionel is a shy reporter. He begins to come out of his shell and embrace his true identity. Returning to the Independent Office, Lionel sees a restless Silvio at his desk rummaging through files. He is told that the dean has been hacked and that Silvio is searching various files to find out who sent the invitations to the blackface party several weeks ago.
