CORONATION STREET is a British soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 1960. The programme centres around Coronation Street: a cobbled, terraced street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on inner-city Salford. CORONATION STREET consists of 10840 episodes of 30 minutes.

STORY: The world's longest-running television soap, Coronation Street focuses on the everyday lives of working-class people in Manchester, England.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Todd Grimshaw is a fictional character from the British soap opera Coronation Street, played by Bruno Langley. The characters debut on-screen was broadcast on 14 January 2001. He was introduced as part of the Grimshaw family, formed around the established character Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver). Todd was the shows first ever gay character which generated much coverage in the British media. The coming out storyline was credited for helping Coronation Street portray a more accurate depiction of society in the 21st century. The characters storylines have mainly focused on his relationships with Sarah-Louise Platt (Tina Obrien), Karl Foster (Chris Finch), Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

SPECIAL: Bruno Langley who played Todd Grimshaw since 2001, was convicted of sexually assaulting two women at a Manchester bar. Mitigating in court, Langley’s lawyer, Simon Hancock, said that it was the stress of playing a gay character that led to the assaults on October 1. “He sometimes feels he needs to act more of a lad than he is to stop assumptions about his sexuality.”
