BRIDESHEAD REVISITED is a 1981 British television series starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. It was produced by Granada Television for broadcast by the ITV network. Most of the series was directed by Charles Sturridge and certain sequences directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. BRIDESHEAD REVISITED consists of 11 episodes of 1 hour.

STORY: The series is an adaptation of the novel Brideshead Revisited (1945) by Evelyn Waugh. From the 1920s to the early 1940s, we follow the life and romances of main character Charles Ryder (Jeremy Irons) - including his friendship with the Flytes, a family of wealthy English Catholics who live in a palatial mansion called Brideshead Castle.

GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: In Oxford, Charles (Jeremy Irons) befriends the youngest son of the family, the handsome Lord Sebastian Flyte (Anthony Andrews), an enfant terrible with childlike features. Sebastian takes Charles to his romantic childhood home, Brideshead Castle, where Charles meets Sebastian's family. It soon becomes apparent that the Catholic family (the father, the civil brother and his sisters Julia and Cordelia) are hiding some painful secrets.

SPECIAL: The relationship between Charles Ryder and Sebastian Flyte is described in the book as an emotional bond. The television series seems to indicate that they also had a physical relationship. Evelyn Waugh has made few statements about this aspect of his work. Due to the sensual atmosphere of the intercourse between the two men, the television series has a cult status among homosexuals.
