BODIES is a British crime and science fiction limited series primarily written and created for Netflix by Paul Tomalin and directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner and Haolu Wang. It is based on the 2015 DC Vertigo graphic novel of the same name, written by Si Spencer and illustrated by Dean Ormston. BODIES consists of 8 episodes of 57 minutes.
STORY: A murder in Whitechapel. Four different detectives are trying to solve the murder in different time periods: 1890s dedicated police officer Alfred Hillinghead (Kyle Soller), dashing 1940s adventurer Karl Whiteman (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd), kick-ass female 2020s detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan (Amaka Okafor) and Maplewood (Shira Haas), a detective from post-apocalyptic 2050, who brings a haunting perspective.
GAY COUPLE STORYLINE: Detective Inspector Alfred Hillinghead (Kyle Soller) investigates the a body on can be seen embracing. It gives some indication that the latter’s arrest may be the start of a journey of acceptance for the former. He obtains photographs of the crime scene from gay journalist Henry Ashe (George Parker). Hillinghead discovers Ashe’s identity as a gay man through a series of portraits showing the queer nightlife of the East End in the 19th Century. One of these is of Ashe with another man. In two images exclusive shown to Attitude shows Hillinghead and Ashe. After Ashe makes a move on him Hillinghead arrests the former for “gross indecency and unnatural acts behind closed doors."

SPECIAL: Bodies' ending resets the timeline and leaves the LGBTQ bond between Ashe and Hillinghead unfulfilled. Bodies' ending confines Ashe and Hillinghead to a life of hiding while other characters find redemption and happiness.
